DJ HELP DESKBY ZULASUN

Recommended DJ gear by category

Each category is split into beginner (affordable), upgrade (mid-price) and professional (high-price) picks. Price ranges are relative within a category, and prices are not shown because they change. Only products rated 4.0 or higher on Amazon.co.jp on the check date (2026-10-22) are listed, manufacturer products preferred. Check connector type, size and compatibility before buying. Troubleshooting steps in the guides are written independently of these ads.

Choosing main DJ gear (five angles)

Gear combinations by genre are my reading of general trends (about 70 to 80% confidence). Venues differ, so check the equipment at the places you will play. Models with few reviews are marked.

① By place and situation

Pick by where you will use it, regardless of genre. The same model may appear in several places.

Practicing at home

Live streaming and online sessions

Bars and small events

Clubs (or practicing on a club-style setup)

Outdoors, festivals and portable use (check power and setup)

② By genre (using Beatport genre names)

Pick by what you play, regardless of place. Beatport genre names are grouped by similarity. Models overlap, and genre does not fix the gear: it depends on the venue and your taste (this mapping is my reading, about 70 to 80% confidence).

Sources: Article on anime songs and dance music (livedoor News) / Shimamura Music Omiya store article (anisong, Vocaloid) / City pop (Wikipedia)

Anime songs (anisong)

Anime songs. A feature article notes loudness differences matter in clubs, and they are popular at festivals and dedicated events.

Vocaloid songs

Vocaloid songs. Reported at daytime youth events and dance battle events.

City pop and Showa-era kayokyoku

Japanese pop of the 1970s and 80s. DJ popularity is my estimate (about 60 to 70% confidence). Gear does not depend on genre, so general controllers are listed.

③ By software

Many dedicated units exist for Traktor (Native Instruments).

Traktor

④ By how you store and play music (format)

Pick by where your music lives and how it is played. This is separate from place and genre, and models overlap. Pairings follow what official sources confirm.

For how to get music, see where to buy (Beatport, Traxsource, Bandcamp), streaming vs buying and all the ways to get tracks into software (official).

USB (bring your tracks on a USB drive or SSD)

Prepare tracks on your computer and carry them on a USB drive. Venues with CDJ/XDJ players let you play without a laptop. Streamed tracks have limits on exporting to USB.

PC (laptop plus DJ software)

Keep tracks on a laptop and play them with rekordbox, Serato or Traktor. A controller handles most of the work.

Vinyl records

Play records on turntables with a mixer. The PLX-CRSS12 supports DVS, which lets you control computer tracks from a turntable.

Smartphone and tablet

Play from an app on a phone or tablet. Official rekordbox announcements confirm that rekordbox for iOS/Android works with the DDJ-FLX2, DDJ-FLX4 and DDJ-GRV6, so these three are listed. Other models are not confirmed by official sources. Sources: rekordbox (Spotify), rekordbox (Apple Music), DDJ-FLX2 page (AlphaTheta)

Streaming (Spotify, Apple Music, Beatport Streaming and more)

Use streamed tracks in DJ software. The official rekordbox guide covers SoundCloud, Beatport, TIDAL, Apple Music and Spotify, with common limits on USB EXPORT, recording and backup. Spotify’s terms limit use to personal, non-commercial use, and Beatport Streaming is personal use too. See streaming vs buying. Sources: rekordbox Streaming Service Usage Guide, Spotify terms

Streaming: Apple Music

Per the official rekordbox announcement (2025-03-25), an Apple Music subscription and internet connection are required. It works in rekordbox for Mac/Windows (7.1.0) and rekordbox for iOS (4.4.0), and the XDJ-AZ and OMNIS-DUO (firmware 1.21) play it directly without a computer. USB EXPORT and recording are not available. AlphaTheta says older versions cannot load Apple Music after 2026-01-27, so update. The DDJ-FLX2 needs djay for Apple Music.
