Turntable: skipping, speed and tracking setup
These are general checks, not model-specific compatibility certification. Start at low volume and change one setting at a time.
Check in order
- Place the unit level and stable; match 33⅓/45 RPM to the record and check pitch/reset state.
- Check stylus guard and dirt; use the cartridge specified tracking-force range, not a universal value.
- Set balance, tracking force and anti-skate to the relevant manuals rather than repeatedly adding force.
- Compare normal playback in a low-vibration location; stop for damaged stylus/contacts and check suitable service or replacement.
- If unresolved, record models, OS/app versions, OUT-to-IN routing, the last responding meter and comparison results in the support note.
Very quiet or distorted audio
- Start with output level and PHONO/LINE matching.
Skipping, hum or intermittent contact
- At low level compare stopped/playback states and separate mechanical from wiring checks.
If unresolved
Record hardware models, OS/app versions, the last responding meter and test outcomes for official support. Do not infer hardware failure or a purchase requirement from unverified checks.
